The Wellington Playcentre Association has 21 member Playcentres stretching from Miramar in Wellington City's southern suburbs to Otaki on the Kapiti Coast. We are proud of our heritage as the home of the Playcentre movement, and we are committed to continue to provide a high standard of educational and play experiences for children and quality adult education opportunities for parents.

The Playcentre Shop
The Wellington Playcentre Shop, packed with fantastic resources, is located at the WPA headquarters.
Playcentre is based on a philosophy of child-initiated play and the importance of parents as educators of their own children. Playcentre is a licenced Early Childhood organisation that is unique to New Zealand.

Kia ora
Hataitai Playcentre is situated on Hamilton Road next door to Kilbirnie School and walking distance from Hataitai village. Buses 2, 6 and 14 stop one street away. The centre is housed in the original school headmaster's house and has been recently renovated with upgraded kitchen and bathroom facilities and extended playspace.
Inside the centre is set up with areas for family play, blocks, painting, a jumpy mat area and a quiet room for reading and puzzles. Outside there is a large sandpit, swings, climbing equipment, carpentry and vegetable garden.
We welcome enquiries from parents and caregivers of children 0 – 6 years of age.
