Welcome to the Wellington Playcentre Association

Playcentre is about fun, quality early childhood education, and learning alongside our children. We believe that parents / whanau are the first and best educators of their children!

The 20 Playcentres in the Wellington region are run as co-operatives by local parents / whanau, making for a very supportive community.

With mixed age play sessions (birth – school age), learning through child-initiated play and free adult education programmes there are benefits for both children and adults alike.

Our centres are licensed, follow Te Whariki (the Ministry of Education Early Childhood Curriculum) and we actively embrace our New Zealand heritage.

We invite you to come and enjoy three free visits at your your local centre or chat to us at one of our upcoming public events.

Karori Playcentre is a community of families growing together through the early childhood education of their children. As a parent co-operative we aim to develop:

  • Strong reciprocal relationships within and beyond Playcentre, adult:adult, adult:child and child:child
  • Curious and confident children ready for the next stage of their learning journey
  • Confident parents with new skills and experience

For our tamariki nui (older children) we offer the opportunity to be involved in an outdoor-based session that spends most weeks out exploring the natural environment at local parks, reserves and beaches. Confidence, curiosity, cooperation and friendships blossom on this session.
