Playcentre is about family. We attract parents who want to take part in their children’s learning through play. You would be working with a team of other parents and will have opportunities to participate in training to learn more about child development and behaviour or extend your knowledge on subjects such as music, woodwork or children’s creativity.
Newlands-Tamariki Playcentre is about friends and Whanau sharing their values and energy so we can all learn together through play.
We provide permanent membership, including flexible terms for parents with young babies. Visitors are always welcome.
Places available now.
In the early days parents ran two playcentres in Newlands out of local halls. In 1977 they agreed to join and relocate to a permanent building in Newlands Road, where Newlands-Tamariki Playcentre is today. This foresight and the hard work of past families gave a home and sense of permanency to Playcentre in Newlands.
In 2005 Newlands-Tamariki Playcentre still has local families committed to playcentre’s philosophy. This is based on child-initiated play and the importance of parents as educators of their own children.
Past President Kate Koch has learnt first hand about the benefits of parents and children learning together. “Playcentre believes parents are the best teachers of children, and contributes to this by offering training for parents so they can provide quality early childhood education for their children.”
Newlands-Tamariki Playcentre is a well-resourced Centre, committed to ongoing training and delivering quality early childhood education. SPACE session for new parents and their babies - Friday 12.15pm-2.30pm
