Welcome to the Wellington Playcentre Association website

The Wellington Playcentre Association has 21 member Playcentres stretching from Miramar in Wellington City's southern suburbs to Otaki on the Kapiti Coast. We are proud of our heritage as the home of the Playcentre movement, and we are committed to continue to provide a high standard of educational and play experiences for children and quality adult education opportunities for parents.

Playcentre is based on a philosophy of child-initiated play and the importance of parents as educators of their own children. Playcentre is a licenced Early Childhood organisation that is unique to New Zealand.

Kia Ora! Welcome!

Tawa-Linden Playcentre is 60 years young this May!  In the true spirit of Playcentre, a celebration is planned to bring together past and present families for an evening of fun and laughter.  During the past 60 years, the centre has been housed in everything from a garage to a social hall before moving to our current location at 1 Ranui Terrace, which is where the fun begins for our current families.

Life at the centre is vibrant and exciting, with children exploring different areas of play including water, woodwork, playdough, collage and much more on a daily basis.  Tawa-Linden offers a variety of programmes to suit the needs of different age groups including a SPACE programme for infants; a starter group for children up to the age of two-and-a-half; mixed session for children from birth to six; and an extension session for older children (generally those aged four and above).

With a generous outdoor area including a large sandpit, climbing frames, swings, slides and a recently refurbished indoor area, Tawa-Linden Playcentre offers a great environment to foster the growth and development of young children and their families.  While there is currently a waiting list, we welcome visitors to our centre, so come along to see what all the fuss is about.
