Playcentre Awareness Week Sunday 21st - Saturday 27th March 2010 Playcentre Awareness Week is held nationally every two years to celebrate the about 11,000 families and 16057 children who are involved in nearly 500 licensed Playcentres nationally (August 2009 figures). Each of the Wellington Playcentre Association's 21 Playcentres between Miramar in the south and Otaki in the north will be holding an event and welcoming visitors into their centres. Some of these include galas, picnics and family walks. See below for a list of these events.
Playcentre is a New Zealand-unique, over 60 year old, early childhood option for birth to six year olds where parents/whanau manage and operate centres as a cooperative. It is a licensed early childhood education provider and receives government funding through the Ministry of Education.
Playcentre provides educational and training options for adults so they can supervise sessions and understand child development and learning. The training is NZQA approved. Playcentre has a maximum ratio of one adult to five children. Playcentre began in Karori, Wellington in 1941.
Event Information for each Playcentre Paremata: 2 & 6km Walks, 6km Run.
21st March, 8:30am registration, 9:00am run, 9:30am walks.
